A man was putting up at a hotel.
He called the front office to request for a wake up call the next morning. The phone rang but no one picked up the call. He called again. And still there was no answer. After calling for more than 20 times, he gave up and called 911. "I've been trying to call the front office of the hotel I'm staying but there's no answer. I'm not sure if something happened. If they are being robbed or tied up and I'm scared to go down and check," he said to the policeman on the phone. The bladeless fan is faulty and since it is still under warranty, an appointment was fixed for the repairman to come down for a look.
He arrived, plugged the wire to the power source and tried turning on the on/off button without success. Took out a replacement stand and plugged to the same power source and it worked. Replaced the faulty stand and was done in less than 5 minutes. When asked about the cause of the problem, he couldn't pinpoint the issue and said they will have to open up the inside to find out. He also said that he would have to open up the inside to check if he did not have a replacement stand available. Of course, that will mean more time required and greater inconvenience to the owner. In fact, technology has advanced so much that it's now so cheap to produce electronic products that it makes business sense for companies to replace faulty products within warranty instead of repairing them. Asked the repairman what happens if it breaks down the next day after the warranty has expired, he couldn't provide an answer. It's safe.
