Neck and Shoulder Massage - 20 minutes ($26)
Foot Reflexology Massage - 40 minutes ($36)
Neck and Shoulder (20 minutes) + Foot Reflexology Massage (40 minutes) - $62
I was looking at the pricing and wonder which package would I choose if I am a customer.
Most of the massage places usually offer a lower price if customers opt for longer massage. For example, $60 for 1 hour of Thai body massage and $110 if you go for 2 hours. For this case, maybe $58 or $60 if you opt for the Neck and Shoulder plus Foot massage.
This is to encourage and incentivize customers to spend more as one gets to save some money which translate to greater value for money.
If you are a rational person, you know you will end up spending more than you want if you go for a longer massage, even though there's the perceived saving.
In this case, there's obviously no incentive to go for the third option unless that is what you want.
If you think about it, the massage parlour would be in a losing end if every customer opts for longer massage. It stands to lose $10 for each customer who opts for 2 hours as the masseur could have served another customer paying full price during that additional one hour.
The number of customers that a masseur can serves is limited by the number of hours he or she works. You just cannot be more efficient. Even using robot can only means it only serves 24 customers a day non-stop as it doesn't need to rest, eat and go for toilet breaks. So logically, there's no reason to offer any discount for longer massages.
But this is only applicable if the massage parlour has that many customers to fill the time slots.
The business has it's peak and non peak period. During peak period, you can serve as many customers as the number of masseurs you have available. During non peak period, you'll see most of the masseurs sitting around waiting for customers. And time lost is lost. It is better to offer some incentive to encourage customers to go for longer massage. Even though you may earn less per hour, at least you are earning some income rather than nothing.
Looking at the sign board, I wonder if the massage parlour has the third option to remind customers that they have the option to combine the first two options.
Can they make it simpler?
