The office has a dining area and an auditorium which the company rents out for events.
When he arrived, there was a group of people having catered buffet lunch before a seminar.
Soon, the attendees were inside.
He glanced at the amount of leftover food from where he was seated.
There were two trays of fried rice and fried noodle (both without ingredients), which looked untouched. A half tray each of chicken coated with brown sauce and puff.
And he thought of a scene he saw in Bangkok where a kid picked up food from the dirty floor outside a supermarket to eat.
While eating with his friend, the seminar ended and the attendees were streaming off.
A few of the attendees and staff of the organiser stayed and continued eating.
A lady who appeared to be the manager of the company was speaking to her staff.
"This is a local dessert," she said as she was scooping something from the pot into a bowl.
"This is made of mung bean. We called it Tau Suan. It's quite nice," she continued.
She was speaking loudly that it's hard for the two guys not to hear.
Then he saw her pouring out the leftover fried fritter in a plastic container and started filling it up with the chicken.
"At least, they are not wasting food," he whispered to his friend.
Next, the lady started talking about packing the Tau Suan back to office. Unfortunately, they did not have containers to do so.
He observed the lady as she acted like a big boss giving instructions to her colleagues.
Then she walked over to the two guys and asked them, "You guys want more food. We still got a lot of fried rice and noodle."
"No thanks," the man replied.
After the group of people left, the friend told him that he heard the lady saying he kept looking at the food.
Unbelievable the lady packed the good stuff and offered the unwanted food to the guys.
So much for her kind gesture.
Now he understands why the lady did not offer the food to the two cleaning staff there.
This reminded me of a scene in the very popular drama, Story of Yanxi Palace.
The Empress's maid, Mingyu said to Wei Yingluo (the lead actress who is also the Empress's maid) that her senior, Erqing has changed totally after she was married.
Yingluo replied, "A person won't change so much within such a short time unless this is what she is all along."
