IA man bought his first Mac laptop from a new shop that just opened for business.
Over the course of ten years, he has spent a substantial amount of money with the business on stuff like changing of batteries, upgrading speed and RAM, etc.
The staff recognize him each time he visited them every after a long time as he was their first customer when they opened for business.
He bought a second hand laptop about six months back on the recommendation of the staff. while he was contemplating to get a new laptop.
He changed to a new battery as well as upgraded the RAM as suggested by the same staff.
A few days back, he had trouble starting the laptop.
The Apple icon will appears and one third way of starting up, the screen went black.
He tried many times and the problem persisted.
He tried googling for solution but it didn't work.
In the end, he called the shop and was told to bring the laptop down for them to check.
As the journey is rather far, he went to a nearby Apple authorized dealer to show them the problem. The staff told him it's a hardware issue and it will costs about $350 to change it including service charges. He got worried as he had used it about twice a month for less than six months.
Anyway, he decided to go down to the shop to ascertain if it's really a hardware issue.
When he reached the shop, the same staff who recommended him to buy the laptop did a check and said it's an OS problem and they need to reinstall the OS.
She quoted him $50.
The man told her that he used it infrequently and why did it happened?
He had not installed any third party software, saved any data, visited any dubious websites or got any viruses.
The staff also did not know why.
He asked it they could reinstall it free of charge for him given the fact that the laptop was rarely used ever since he bought it.
The lady said, "If every customer says the same thing, then we no need to earn."
But the man thought otherwise.
And the staff could easily check if the laptop has been heavily used from the battery life which is a new one.
The manager came along and offered $40.
As he just want to get the problem fixed, he negotiated it down to $30.
He was told to come back one hour later to collect the laptop.
So he loitered around the shopping mall.
While loitering, he decided to check out the market rate for reinstall the OS. Most of the other shops quoted him between $40 to $60 with one going as low as $30.
Surprisingly, not one shop bothered to ask why did he want to reinstall the OS.
Did they assume he is an IT expert?
Oe hour later, he went back to the shop.
The OS has been reinstalled but the staff thought there's something strange with the laptop.
She asked him to come back the next day to collect the laptop.
He was unwilling to do so due to the long journey and since he was already there.
He told her he will wait for her to fix the problem.
Time went by and the staff hadn't resolved the problem when it's time to close shop.
The man had no choice but to agree to come back the next day as he wanted make sure she make a thorough check instead of rushing through the job.
He asked what time the laptop should be ready.
The lady told him that she would call him once it's done.
The next day, he had some errands to run and was waiting for the lady to call so that he could plan his journey.
One hour, two hours, three hours went by and there's no call.
Finally, he couldn't wait any longer after four hours.
He tried calling her but the line was engaged for a long time.
He then called their branch, which was located within the same shopping mall on a different level.
Finally, he managed to get hold of the manager who then told him that the laptop is ready for collection.
Making him rushed down to the shop to collect his laptop under 35 degree hot weather in the central city area before heading to his appointment at the eastern side within one hour.
