Now, take a look at the subjects that they teach in school.
Are you puzzled?
My ex-colleague asked me about dinosaurs recently. Seriously, I do not know much about this prehistoric creature. I know there are those that fly, those with big claws, those that eat vegetables and those that eat other dinosaurs. But, to me, dinosaurs are just dinosaurs.
I wonder why students are taught about these in schools?
If it's something extra to expose them to different things in life, then it's fine. But they actually have exams on this subject.
I remember during my school days, there were biology, physics, chemistry, history, geography, literature and social studies. I often wonder why am I studying them. Of course a little knowledge about physics help you to understand what gravity is all about. But being a doctor, physicist or chemist were never my ambition.
I've long forgotten the scientific terms of all the different layers of our skin and experiments done in the lab. I don't remember what is the color of chlorine sulphate. By the way, is there such a thing as chlorine sulphate? I only remember the last emperor in China is Pu Yi from a movie.
Studying it because you are interested is fine. But studying it for the sake of sitting for exams is crazy.
Students are still studying these subjects. Why can't the schools teach something else? Are these people too lazy to change? Do they have nothing else to teach if they drop these subjects? Are there protest from parents if the syllables are changed? Are they too afraid the change fails?
In your business, are you doing the same thing because it is done this way all along? Are you selling the same products and services because that's what you've been selling? Do you dare try something new?
