Just the other day, I was at the post office to buy stamps to send a letter.
It's been long time since I last stepped into the post office and even longer since I last bought stamps. The last stamp (22 cents) I had was with me for a few years had turned yellow before I finally had a chance to use it.
After all these years and with all the inflation, I reckon it'll probably costs one or two cents more at the most. Well, you can't really keep increasing the price of something where the demand is getting lesser and lesser right.
It was in the late afternoon when I reached and there's not many customers.
"One stamp booklet (10 stamps) please," I said as I wonder how long that will takes for me to finish using.
The lady at the counter passed me one and replied, "$2.55."
I had exactly $2.50 and the rest of notes in my wallet were $10 denomination.
"Wait, I might have a 5 cents with me," I exclaimed.
Tried as I might, unfortunately I just couldn't find the 5 cents to make up the correct amount. So I took out a $10 note and handed it over to her.
What the lady did next surprised me.
She looked at me and said, "Never mind. Just remember it's $2.55 the next time."
Then she took the $2.50 and handed me the receipt.
As I was leaving, I wondered if she has to write a report to explain and justify the missing 5 cent. Or is she going to pay the 5 cent out of her own pocket?
